It is with much excitement than I take on my second Badwater Ultramarathon on July 12th, recognized globally as "the world's toughest foot race". This legendary event pits up to 90 of the world's toughest athletes—runners, triathletes, adventure racers, and mountaineers—against one another and the elements. Covering 135 miles traversing over 3 mountain passes this non-stop race from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney, CA has temperatures up to 130F and ground temperatures reaching close to 200 degrees, it is the most demanding and extreme running race offered anywhere on the planet.
Where most participants cross the finish line and begin a well-deseved rest, I will continue an additional 10 miles - straight up- to the top of Mt. Whitney, 14,505 feet, summiting the highest pick in the Continental United States.
This year I'm dedicating my efforts to raise money for Aggeus Foundation, in the loving memory of my parents who sadly lost their battle with cancer. Thanks to all for such strong support last year - I hope to continue that momentum based on such a positive impact!
Aggeus Foundation is a federally registered 501(c)3 Chicago based not-for-profit providing the means for comprehensive medical treatment to patients with cancer and diabetics. The special emphasis is on patients in long term care, such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities. In these “Special Cases,” where financial is needed, lack of medical insurance, or other non-health related issues interfere with continuity of patient care, is where the Aggeus Foundation intervenes to make a difference.
